I got a parking ticket a few weeks ago from RIT. It was a real stupid thing because (as usual) I didn't violate any parking regulations.

I sent an e-mail to the appeals department:

* Short-term spaces in all other locations are enforced from 5:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.

Accoding to the RIT Reporter 9/6/2002 issue:

PARKING AFTER 5:00

For the most part, those who drive to campus can park anywhere after 5:00 p.m. This means that no tickets will be issued for parking in reserved spaces, apartment complex visitor's parking spots, and most short-term parking spots (excluding spaces outside the Gannett Building,

Wallace Library, the Student Life Center, and the Ross Building, which are needed for nighttime vendor deliveries). Places that will remain off-limits are handicap spaces, resident-only apartment complex spaces, the aforementioned short-term spots, and 20-minute spots. On weekends, the entire campus is essentially one big free-for-all-just don't park on the roads. Check out the Parking Pamphlet for further details, and Consult Campus Safety if there are further questions.

Although the RIT Reporter lists short term spots "outside Wallace Library" as being ones that may not be parked in, I was parked in the spots behind the Student Alumni Union, not the spots outside Wallace Library.

I got their response today.

Although these are not grounds for appeal, the fine for this ticket has been waived this time only.

NOT grounds for appeal???? What??? Note to self: Improper application of published rules are not grounds to get a parking ticket overturned? That's just dumb.
